Thank you! Dear Friends: It's hard to believe that The Gerry Nevins Foundation was started six years ago. Our mission was simple; help husbands and wives in our community who have lost their spouse. We ventured into the unknown area of non-profit organizations with a little knowledge and no real experience. Today, with the help of many, we are listed as a New York State Charity. We have distributed over $200,000.00 to families in Orange and Rockland Counties. The monies have been raised through private donations, as well as from our annual 'Pig Roast' held on Labor Day weekend and 'Half-Way to the Pig Roast' cocktail parties. We were extremely fortunate to be asked to appear on 'NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams'. From that interview aloen, we received over $10,000.00 in donations from all over the country. Secondly, we wanted to let you know that we truly appreciate your continued support of our Foundation. Many of you attend the Pig Roast year after year. Some of you are kind enough to buy raffle tickets or send a donation even though you are unable to attend: we are grateful to all of you and the families and businesses who donate one of the almost 100 raffle prizes. Our big prize this year came from the cast of the Broadway show Jersey Boys. We not only received two tickets, but also an autographed poster from the cast and a backstage tour after the show. The Gerry Nevins Foundation Board and Committee members have recently met to organize plans for the coming year. In light of the economic climate, we are limiting our fundraising events this year to the 6th annual Pig Roast to be held on September 4, 2010. We hope you willl join us. Please also pass on a link to this website to friends and neighbors. One of the best ways you can help us is to let people know about the foundation and our efforts to help our neighbors. Sincerely, Marie Nevins |
